Product Care & Important Information

All our products are made from dead or fallen cedar unless our product is labeled redwood. The cedars that we use for our carvings come from many of the recent Northern California forest fires. Chip's Fire and Paradise's Camp Fire name just two that we get our wood, harvesting the dead and left behind cedar and redwood. Read below for reasons on why we choose to carve our products from cedar and redwood.

While other wood species are available, cedar is our wood of choice. Cedar is a lightweight and dimensionally stable wood that lies flat and stays straight. Which means it resists the natural tendency to crack and check, as you might find in many other wood species. Keep in mind that "all" wood cracks and checks but cedar does so less than others. Cedar fibers and natural occurring oils give off a distinct cedar aroma that makes the wood highly unattractive to insects, moths and other pest. These same elements act as natural perservatives to help resist rot and decay. Cedar also has a resistance to bacteria and fungas, coupled with the fact that Cedar is 80% the strength of Oak, makes it the most desirable wood to use for building outdoor furniture, fences, decks, planter boxes, raised garden beds, outdoor sauna and hot tub enclosures.

Cedar, left unfinished, weathers to a silver-gray, and gives a no-maintenance look preferred by many. And without any attention at all, and all cedar's natural anti fungal properties, your carving will still most likely out live your grandkids. For those of you on the other side of the petinad fence, you may want to preserve the "fresh look" of your carving once you first recieve it. If this is you, then keep reading. Your carving will be carved then lightly sanded with 40 grit grinder pads to round off any sharp edges or corners, afterwards, we will give your carving some color and highlight its curves while bringing out all of cedars beautiful grain. This look is amazing, but in order to kep this look your going to want to make sure that it stays out of the sun until you can put a few coats of finish on it. This will prevent any fading that the sun will do and keep it from turning silver. When buying a finish be sure to buy one with an outdoor UV protectant, like one used for decks, fences or buy a marine finish. Doing this step once ever couple a years will protect it from the harsh sun and will always have that same "fresh look" it had, the day it came to you.
